Afghan Bridal Makeup Melbourne: Traditional Looks for a Modern Wedding

Afghan Bridal Makeup

Afghan weddings happen across multiple events, and each one calls for a different bridal look. Engagement, henna night, nikkah, wedding day, walima. Five days, five looks, with the bride at the centre of all of them.

Hadia Beauty is a trusted bridal home for brides of every culture across Melbourne, with our owner Zahra bringing 18 years of bridal makeup and hair experience. Our bridal specialty covers traditional, modern and South Asian weddings, including dedicated Afghan bridal makeup, honouring the cultural conventions of each look while making it photograph beautifully under modern lighting.

Engagement (Shirini Khori)

The engagement event is the moment the family confirms the union. The look is sweet, soft, romantic. Pinks and warm corals on the lips. Soft brown smokey eye. Glossy not matte.

Hair: usually styled half-up with side-swept curls. Floral hair accessories are common.

Hadia Beauty engagement makeup: from $200.

Henna night (Khina)

The henna night is the most colour-rich event of the wedding cycle. The bride wears traditional Afghan dress in vivid colours – jade, ruby, gold. The makeup needs to keep up.

Look: deep, jewel-toned eye look (emerald, plum, copper). Full strip lashes. Defined brow. Bold lip in red or berry.

Hair: traditional braid styling with mirror or coin accessories. We work with Dandenong-based henna artists for the hand and feet henna.

Henna night styling: from $200.

Wedding day

The wedding day is the white-and-gold moment. Western-inspired bridal dress meets Afghan tradition.

Look: classic bridal soft glam. Champagne shimmer eye, soft contour, defined brow, glossy nude-pink lip. Long-wearing, photo-friendly.

Hair: full styled updo or romantic flowing curls, often with extensions for added volume.

Wedding day bridal: from $250 (bride only). Bridal trial included.

Walima (next day reception)

Walima is the family reception, often held the day after the wedding. The look is elegant and slightly less formal than the wedding day.

Look: warm bronze eye, soft contour, defined lip. Less heavy than the wedding day, more wearable.

Walima bridal: from $200.

Bridesmaids and family

Afghan weddings are family-wide events. We do mothers of the bride and groom, sisters, cousins, bridesmaids.

Group bridal package of 5 (bride + 4 family): from $850. Larger groups quoted on request.

We work with Dandenong-based henna artists, dressmakers and photographers familiar with Afghan weddings. If you need a referral to any of these, we can help.
